Recently, together with two of my busiest friends, Mel Braun and Laura Loewen, I performed “Schwanengesang” (Swan Song) by Franz Schubert. Based on the sold-out success of the Manitoba Collaboration Project’s “British Invasion” in November, we continued a series of concerts that focus on nationally themed art song, visual art and cuisine.
The Concert on March 21, 2015 was based on all things Austrian.
From one of the Master Works of Franz Schubert, famous German poetry, Austrian desserts, brandy and schnapps, to German song-inspired artwork by Manitoban Artist Shirley Elias, the concert also featured an authentic 1860 Chickering grand piano at the home of my parents, Leonard and Marie. This Concert was surely one that could ONLY been seen at 574 Henry Street in Steinbach!
With carefully crafted interjections of music appreciation, audience interaction, and selected songs by BLUE RODEO (with the talented Micah Braun on guitar), we easily brought Schubert’s last 14 songs to an appreciative sold-out audience! Thank you to everyone who attended, making this the second sold out concert of my series this year. Three concerts are planned for the 2015/2016 season. Watch for more info!
